Don't Miss Third Sunday Meeting This Sunday, June 19, 2011, from 10:30am-12:30pm, our speaker will be RET member Michael Lance, who will present “Europe Between Hitler and Stalin”. Please join us for this important presentation.
The 20th century saw the greatest man-made demographic catastrophe and human tragedy in European history. It mainly occurred in the lands between Hitler and Stalin, from 1933-45. Drawing mainly on the recent book by Yale historian, Timothy Snyder (Bloodlands), Michael Lance will present a history of this place and time focusing on how and why the regimes of Stalin and Hitler committed their atrocities. Time permitting, the work by Holocaust Scholar, Christopher Browning (Ordinary Men), which attempts to address the issue of how ordinary Germans committed mass murders, will be discussed.
