“The End of the Universe” - Oct. 4, 2009 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. - Dr. Soren P. Sorensen, Professor and Physics Department Head, University of Tennessee - Pellissippi State, Goins Bldg., Cafeteria Annex - Also Children's Program
Dr. Sorensen obtained his Ph.D. degree at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, in 1981. In 2000 he was appointed Head of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Tennessee.
Dr. Sorensen says, "Today we have a fairly detailed picture of the childhood of the universe in the form of the Big Bang theory. But what will happen with the universe once it reaches a more mature age and what will be the ultimate end of it? In this talk, I will discuss some of the possible scenarios for the end of the universe based on our current scientific knowledge."
There will also be a Children's Program: Reading of, "Belinda the Ballerina," by Amy Young, followed by a discussion of the value of resilience.
