Upcoming RET events: Erickson on Science and Brenneman leads Adopt-a-Highway trash pickup.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7th EVENT:
History of Science - Lee Erickson
Sunday, October 7th, 2007
10:30 a.m. (come early for coffee and socializing)
Pellissippi State Technical Community College
"History of Science: Selected Episodes of Natural History and Natural Philosophers"
RET member, Lee Erickson, will lead the discussion.
Anyone who knows Lee appreciates his curiosity and enthusiam for science and, in particular, for astronomy. He has been known to gaze skyward with his telescope into the wee hours of the morning. Lee is also a motorcyclist and a pilot who thrills in living and moving in a 3-dimensional world. He unselfishly imparts his knowledge of science and astronomy and his love of flying to young and old, alike.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 14th EVENT
To: RET Members and Friends
Weather permitting, we are scheduling an RET trash pickup on Sunday morning - October 14th, 9:00a.m. - Noon, on Pellissippi Parkway. This event is registered with International Cleanup Weekend, a coordinated global effort taking place Saturday, October 13, and Sunday, October 14, 2007, at locations throughout the world.
Cooler autumn days have returned to the hills and valleys of East Tennessee and it's time to tidy up Pellissippi Parkway!
Weather permitting, we are scheduling an RET trash pickup on Sunday morning - October 14th, 9:00a.m. - Noon, on Pellissippi Parkway.
Please let me know by Thursday night (October 11th) if you will be able to help. And indicate whether you have your own brightly colored vest, since I need to know how many vests to have on hand.

We will meet at the Burger King, just off Pellissippi Parkway, at the Lovell Road exit. Come between 8:30 and 9:00 for breakfast and parking-lot stretches!
If weather is bad (rain, visibility, etc.), we will of course postpone the exercise. If you have questions about cancellation, call me before 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning to find out our status. (My phone number is unlisted, but it's in the RET directory. I'll also make every effort to contact everyone who told me they were planning to help.) If we need to postpone because of rain, I want everyone to take off all their clothes and do a nekkid splash dance for joy -- and when we dry out again and get out of jail, I'll pick another cleanup date.
- Pellissippi Parkway, headed northwest toward Oak Ridge
- Lovell Road exit (that's the next exit after the Dutchtown Road exit and
*just* after our RET Adopt-a-Highway sign
- Proceed to the end of the exit, and you will see Burger King on your right
*** A HINT***
If you have a small wagon or wheelbarrow, you may want to bring it along. It's difficult to drag along a (tearing) plastic bag. You'll also want to bring your work gloves.
Thank you so much for helping with this worthwhile endeavor. Hope to see you on Sunday, Oct. 14.
