September Events
September 10th, 2006, 5:00 p.m., Barnes and Noble Bookstore, Kingston Pike, Knoxville: Skeptic Book Club, Devil's Game: How the U.S. Helped Unleash Fundamental Islam, by Robert Dreyfuss.

September 17th, 2006, 10:30 p.m., Dr. Thomas Hood, University of Tennessee Dept. of Sociology, "Car Talk: How the Automobile Has Ruined American Society," Location: Pellissippi State Technical Community College 10915 Hardin Valley Road Knoxville, TN (Driving directions, below) ...

In this provocative presentation, Dr. Hood takes the stance that the automobile has encouraged the development of many selfish patterns of living that are unsustainable and damaging to the environment. He draws upon research on the destruction of mass transportation systems and the encouragement of patterns of housing that have created an emerging crisis in society.

Directions: Driving east on I-40, take Exit 376, State Hwy. 162 / Pellissippi Parkway / Oak Ridge. Driving west on I-40, take Exit 376A, State Hwy. 162 / Pellissippi Parkway / Oak Ridge. Take Pellissippi Parkway 3.5 miles to the Hardin Valley Road exit. Turn left on Hardin Valley Road. Turn right at the first road after the underpass (Solway Road). Turn left into the Pellissippi State entrance.

The cafeteria annex is at the very back of the Goins Administration building. If you enter the building from the door in front of parking lot V1 (marked in green), you go straight back, through a little atrium, through the cafeteria toward the back left of the atrium, and all the way through to the room in the back left of the cafeteria. Parking in lots V1 or O1 on the weekends seems acceptable, and both are convenient to the building.
