February 16 meeting of Oak Ridge Forum on Religion|
Dr. Thomas L Ferrell will speak on "Physics, the Universe, and a Strange View of God" at the next meeting of the Oak Ridge Forum on Religion and Science - scheduled for Thursday, February 16th, 2006, in the A&B room of the Oak Ridge Civic Center.
Please plan to attend the next FRS on February 16 (See announcement below).
To cover our increase of $1 for lunch from the Soup Kitchen, the cost of lunch and room rental will be $9 per person. The same meal (soup, sandwich, desert, and drinks) would cost $9.20 at the Soup Kitchen. After consideration of other possible options, we decided to stay the course. We are interested in your suggestions. All of us can help to keep food cost down by making a reservation for an accurate head-count before each Forum to avoid food waste.
The next meeting of the Oak Ridge Forum on Religion and Science is scheduled for Thursday, February 16th, 2006, in the A&B room of the Oak Ridge Civic Center.
A social session is planned for 11:00 am, followed by a buffet lunch at 11:30 am catered by the Soup Kitchen, and then by the following event:
Dr. Thomas L Ferrell will speak on "Physics, the Universe, and a Strange View of God"
A view will be presented that is based upon a traditional Southern upbringing complemented by Army-brat experience and readings of Albert Einstein, Richard Feynman, and other physicists. In this view the center point is a balance between uncertainty and faith. The faith aspect is discussed not just from a traditional view, but also from a scientific view. An allied theme will be the concept of creativity as a duty in life.
Dr Ferrell received his B. S. degree in physics from Auburn University in 1964
The cost of lunch and incidentals for this event is $9.00 per person. We ask that you notify us by e-mail to Larry Dipboye firstname.lastname@example.org with the names attending in your party. Alternatively a phone call to 483-6752 with this information will be appreciated.
We are experimenting with a feature for our website at www.oakridgefrs.net; we will publish drafts of articles where the authors would appreciate comments.
