Knoxville News-Sentinel - March 6th
Theocrats trying to impose their will on everyone else.
This is in response to Sam Venable's Feb. 22 column and the quote, "The more things change, the more they stay the same."

Thank you, Sam Venable, for telling it like it is. Thank you for showing bigotry to be bigotry. We must stand against all theocrats in America just as we stand against those in Afghanistan and Iraq.

We cannot be good men and good women if we do nothing when members of society are marginalized and abused by government officials who are sworn to uphold the Constitution and " establish, justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity ."

We must say no. We must say: It is not justice for theocrats to say who can marry and who cannot. Just as it was not justice when laws prevented interracial marriage, it is not justice to propose laws to prevent same-sex marriages.

We must say to the theocrats: Is not liberty the freedom to love whom you will and not only whom society says you may?

We must say this because the theocratic politicians who think their Christian creed is good enough for the rest of us are a danger to all of the freedoms our nation was founded to protect.
