The next meeting of the Oak Ridge Forum on Religion and Science is scheduled for Thursday, May 13th, 2004, in the A&B room of the Oak Ridge Civic Center. Social session - 11:00 am, followed by a buffet lunch - 11:30 am. Details below.
A social session is planned for 11:00 am, followed by a buffet lunch at 11:30 am catered by the Soup Kitchen, and then by the following event.
Joseph Shukla will discuss "Hinduism."
He will speak on key aspects of Hindu belief system and how it relates to
modern science, focusing more upon the philosophical aspects of
Hinduism rather than historical or mythological aspects.
Mr. Shukla grew up in Bombay, India and obtained his Bachelor's degree in Civil
Engineering from I.I.T. Bombay. He came to USA as a graduate student in engineering in early 1970s, obtained his Master's Degree in Structural Engineering and M.B.A at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign He is a registered professional engineer and has been a U.S. Citizen since 1983. He has been working in the Power Generation industry (both Fossil and Nuclear)
for over 25 years and at present is Project Controls Manager with ALSTOM Power in Knoxville. Their business unit (Environmental Control Systems) mainly deals with design, procurement, and installation of Air Quality Control Equipment. (Particulate emissions, SO2 removal, NOx removal, etc.). Mr Shukla has been married for over 28 years and has been settled in Farragut since 1989. He and his wife have three children: two daughters graduated from UT and are pursuing graduate studies in California and at Vanderbilt, respectively, and their son is freshman at Farragut High.
He is Vice President and past President of the Hindu Community Cente.

The cost of lunch and incidentals for this event is $7.00 per person. Alternatively a phone call to 483-8998 with this information will be appreciated. Since the A& B room will serve only 60 people in a buffet lunch we encourage your early reservation.
