This Sunday's events!|
Folks, Sunday, October 19 could be a full day. There's the RET business before the roundtable, the roundtable itself, and the Hemlock society panel discussion later that afternoon.
First, 10:30 at the Candy Factory, RET members will hold brief business regarding a motion to affiliate with American Atheists and Atheist Alliance. We recommend you do a search for these organizations on the web and check them out if you'd like to learn more.
Then, we'll have a shorter than normal philosophy roundtable on Identity and Self. I don't have much prepared so I'd appreciate anybody who'd care to contribute.
Finally, I think RET members and friends would really enjoy attending the panel discussion put on by the Knoxville chapter of the Hemlock Society. The meeting will be held on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m., at the Unitarian/Universalist Church. A panel made up of UT philosophy, psychology, and religion professors will discuss issues pertaining to the choice to end a life. Among them will be Dr. John Hardwig, head of UT's philosophy department and an authority on the subject.
A founding member of RET, Jerry Sillman, has started this local Hemlock Society chapter. Several RET members will be attending what should be a stimulating discussion.
Those who want to come to the Candy Factory early for coffee and treats, I'll see you at 10:00.
